Located at the bottom of the Casentino valley, not far from Stia, this location is home to the Park. In the centre of the inhabited area there are notable examples of the traditional architecture that made extensive use of porticos; among the numerous monuments, one that stands out is the abbey of S. Maria a Poppiena, important between the end of the XI and the beginning of the XVI century as a Camaldoli dependency. The most notable buildings are located in the nearby hamlet of Romena: the imposing but impressive castle, and the beautiful parish church of San Pietro, which displays the sober Romanesque forms of the 12th century; restoration work has brought to light the remains of a pre-existing church with three apses, dating back to the 10th century.
