Sunday, May 10, 2026—From Caiano, going up to the Caspriano Pass, then descending from San Leolino to Cornioleta. With environmental hiking guide Donata Petracchi.
Today’s trails, yesterday’s roads! During a walk in the open countryside or in the
woods, have you ever wondered if the trail you’re walking on might have
been, in times past, a major communication route? And that those fascinating isolated ruins on a hilltop—today little more than piles of large, square sandstone boulders, enveloped and inhabited by clematis, ivy, and
Elderberry —once represented the ancient strongholds of power in the Apennines?
All this, and much more, will characterize this hike, set in a beautiful and varied landscape, with a few challenging climbs, whose effort will be immediately rewarded by truly evocative views and stories! One last curiosity: along the way, we’ll also admire splendid works of art in the middle of the woods, so in harmony with the environment that they almost blend in. These are the rock paintings by the young artist Simone Carraro, created during the summer of 2023 on the walls of old stone quarries above Caiano. Simone writes: "Tongue of Moss and Teeth of Stone. From the mouth of the woods, the figures burst forth in a scream."So all you have to do is come (as well) to admire these magical figures as they emerge! And to top it all off, a tasty snack at Daniela and Francesco’s Cornioleta.
